In an interesting related development, the Financial Intelligence Unit today issued a curious, obliquely worded statement. It states that quote, “due to recent developments”- but then doesn’t say what those developments are – t_he FIU is publicizing the fact that it is an offence to tip off anyone who is the subject of a money laundering investigation_.

Trying to parse through the cryptic jargon, we’d say that there are only two recent developments: first, the Opposition Leader wrote to the Prime Minister asking him about Boots Martinez’s supposedly suspicious transactions, and then we went to Boots Martinez and asked him about it. So, either the Leader of the Opposition indirectly tipped off Boots Martinez – if he is the subject of such an investigation; or the Prime Minister tipped of Boots Martinez; or we tipped off Boots Martinez; again all these assume that Boots Martinez is or could possibly be the subject of an investigation and the FIU has refused to comment on that.

But whoever tipped off who about what, the release states that it is punishable by a fine of 50 grand or three years in jail. So, whodunit? And what did they do? To whom? Beats us....and really it’s just too much cloak and dagger for us, and we’ll just file it under un-decipherable.
