According to Belmopan Police they believe that they have caught the man who has been stealing horses all through the Cayo District especially from off farm lands and stables along the Western Highway. The latest incident occurred near mile fifty four where a total of six horses were discovered missing from the stables at the Equestrian Academy.

Around three thirty on Wednesday morning, twenty year old watchman Santos Ramirez was patrolling inside the academy when he saw a Hispanic man standing near the club house. He also observed that the stable gates were open and the horses were gone. The man later identified as Guatemalan national Byron Roberto Broaster reportedly told the watchman that a man from Guatemala had sent him to get the horses so that they can be taken to the United States.

Ramirez didn’t buy the story and fired a warning shot but Broaster refused to leave and threatened the watchman. That is when Ramirez then fired another shot. This time the bullet struck Broaster to the back of his right upper arm and the middle of his back. He was taken to the Western Regional Hospital treated and released into the custody of the police. The horses were later found wandering on the Western Highway in the vicinity of the old mill.

According to police Byron Roberto Broaster will be charge for the attempt of cattle theft and there may be additional charges levied against him. Police did confirm to 7NEWS that he is also being investigated in other reports of horse and cattle theft.
