Police have detained a man after an Orange Walk woman complained that he tried to rape her last night. The woman who police have not named to protect her identity was at home in Trial Farm Village when around seven fifteen when she heard a knock on the door. The woman told authorities that she believed it was her husband who had returned home and so she opened the door. That is when she saw a man she knows as Eric Sambas standing in the doorway, wearing no shirt and exposing his person.
Before she could react, he pushed her to the floor. But while the housewife did not have a weapon she screamed for help. He responded by punching her in the mouth but with the alarm raised, he had to dash off. Police responded and today told 7NEWS while they have one man detained, they are investigating to see if it is the same suspect the woman has identified because their investigation reveals that he may also go by another name.
By Thursday they will know if any charges will be brought against him.
