The long delayed double murder trial of Taedron Bennett and Joseph Kee began Wednesday in the Belmopan Supreme Court. The duo is accused of the May 14th 2006 murder of brothers Phillip and Kevin Brannon in front of their home on Albert Street West. Three witnesses have been called, including the deceased’s brother Basil Brannon and Marvin Humes who were also shot.

Basil remembered that Phillip attacked Taedron Bennett earlier that night at the Tanya Stephens concert at the City Center but he didn’t see who shot him later on in front of the family home. In fact, Basil told the court,”everything happened so fast.” Humes also didn’t see the shooter since he lost consciousness almost immediately after he was shot.

That left the third witness Marcia Bailey, the Brannons’ upstairs neighbour who was talking on the phone when she heard the commotion outside. She ran to the verandah and in court she testified that she saw a man shooting. In court she pointed to Joseph Kee as the man she saw.

In cross examination, defense attorneys Dickie Bradley and Ellis Arnold attacked bailey’s identification of Kee, suggesting that she originally told police she identified Kee from the news. In court she testified she saw him at the Magistrate’s Court. The case was adjourned to Monday. Director of Public Prosecutions Cheryl Lynn Branker-Taitt is prosecuting and she has a list of 20 witnesses.
