37 year old American national James Gerou was this evening arraigned in Magistrate’s Court on a charge of money laundering. Police are linking Gerou to the Coyes who were charged on Friday with money laundering after $1.5 million was found in suitcases in their home at number 12 Johnson Street.
Gerou is reportedly the boyfriend of Melonie Coye. He somehow slipped out of the police’s custody when the family was detained on New Year’s Eve. He surrendered yesterday evening.
In court the police prosecutor objected to bail because Gerou is an American national. Gerou’s attorney Dickie Bradley objected, saying that if Gerou wanted to escape – he could have done so already. Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie agreed and granted Gerou $50,000 bail. He however has to surrender his travel documents and must report to the clerk of court every Monday morning.
