Earlier we told you that Cayo police are positively certain they have the right persons in custody for the killing of Chief Security Officer Josiah Thompson they have yet to make a definite arrest in the murder of twenty seven year old Belizario Eck Jr. Authorities are appealing to the public if they have any information that can help solve the Saturday night homicide to contact them.
The police however have made progress in connection with the apprehension of one of their most wanted men. Jarod Lamb Arthurs who was shot by police on Sunday after he tried to run away from them was today discharged from the San Ignacio Hospital. He was escorted over to the San Ignacio Police Station where it is expected he will be charged for a number of offenses.
Today the officer in charge of Cayo Police Senior Superintendent Paul Wade told the media that while Jarod Lamb aAthurs better known as Steel Bob is wanted for a number of robberies including escape they have yet to determine if he played any role in the holdup and attempted robbery at Glady’s Shop and the subsequent murder of Belizario Eck Jr.
Sr. Supt Paul Wade, Cayo Police
“That matter is still being investigated. We are making progress and very soon we will have positive results.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
I know yesterday Mr. Wade you were saying that you all were investigating to see whether or not Mr. Arthurs was also linked to that murder. Today we saw him brought to the court here. What is that position, do you believe today that he was involved?
Sr. Supt Paul Wade,
“Mr. Arthurs, we do not have any evidence to connect him at this time to that murder. We are looking at others at the moment. However as I had indicated, Mr. Arthurs was wanted for a series of burglaries, robberies, and he was wanted for escape from police custody so he will be charged for those crimes.”
Around eight forty five on Saturday night Belizario Sr. and his wife Lilia Eck were just about to close their store when two men wearing rags over their faces stormed into the shop and demanded money. At the same time the couple’s son Belizario Jr. walked into the store with the family’s two dogs. It is reported that while the animals rushed the robbers Belizario Jr. reportedly struggled with the men. The robbers then ran away but Belizario Eck who was unarmed at the time reportedly took chase after them and that is when one of suspects fired a shot which caught Eck Jr. in his upper left chest and he died shortly after.
Police say the men who did not manage to steal anything. From the store got away by jumping into a taxi that was seen waiting for them on a street behind the Eck’s establishment.
