True to their word Cayo Police have acted swiftly in bringing some closure to the first murder of 2009. Today three men were charged for the shooting death of twenty seven year old Belizrio Eck Jr. on January third. And while it is yet to be determined who actually pulled the trigger the same charge has been levied against all three suspects.
The accused who are all residents of San Ignacio Town have been identified as eighteen year old Eric Hernandez, eighteen year old Ronnie Badillo and nineteen year old Roland Wilson. They are charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and attempted robbery. While Cayo Police would not elaborate they told 7NEWS that they believe they have strong evidence that links all three to the crime.
Around eight forty five on Saturday night Belizario Eck Sr. and his wife Lilia Eck were getting ready to close the family’s store when two men wearing rags over their faces stormed into Glady’s Shop and demanded money. At that same time Belizario Eck Jr. and the family’s two dogs walked into the store and he started to beat back the armed men. Between the dogs and Eck, the armed men realized they had too much on their hands, and they ran off. But Eck set chase and that’s when one of them shot him in the chest.
Eric Hernandez, Ronnie Badillo and Roland Wilson were all remanded to Hattieville Prison and are scheduled to reappear in court on February twenty sixth.
