Stabbing at Mopan Technical High

There was a stabbing yesterday at Mopan Technical High School. It happened at 12:45 in the afternoon when a 16 year old student stabbed his schoolmate Abelio Leon, also 16 years old. The two had a dispute over a girl – and the accused sought to settle it with a stab to his classmate’s midsection.

Leon was rushed to the Loma Luz Hospital where emergency surgery was performed. He was in critical condition, but police report that his condition has been upgraded to stable condition.

The 16 year old who is accused of the crime was arrested at the school and charged for dangerous harm, use of deadly means, and attempted murder. The offences are indictable and he has been remanded to a youth detention facility.
