On Friday 42 year old Cecil Gabourel pleaded guilty to killing his wife 32 year old Carol Gabourel, admitting his guilt to the lesser charge of manslaughter, not murder. But this afternoon after going on the stand – and giving his side of the story, the judge entered a plea of not guilty. He was supposed to appear to make a statement on his own behalf to lessen the sentence for the manslaughter, but he told the court a different story completely, explaining that he stabbed his wife to death by accident, after she pulled the knife on him. From there, he claims, they struggled and that’s when he stabbed her.

When Justice Adolph Lucas heard that he changed the plea to not guilty and ordered that it should go to trial. It is of interest to note that two of his children were also outside the court room, as well as Carol Gabourel’s sister, Rosalie Ogaldez were all very emotional after they heard that Gabourel did not accept the facts as stated in court last week.

On Christmas day of 2006, Gabourel and his wife got into an argument about how it ended when she was stabbed to death.
