The roundabout on Freetown Road is going through changes, again! Since it was installed in August, the roundabout has been the subject if criticism; because it was too small and thus creating more chaos because no one knew who was on the roundabout. So the roundabout was expanded, and speed bumps were installed to force drivers to give way. Well, over the weekend it was dug up again – and that’s how it remains this evening. So what’s the plan? That’s what we asked City Councilor with responsibility for traffic Dean Samuels today.
Dean Samuels, City Councilor in Charge of Traffic
“You know the roundabout is heavily traversed when it comes to traffic. Again we realize that vehicles going around it, there is a tendency to get a lot of potholes around the roundabout. Again we are about safety when it comes to residents and motorists. So what we decided the best move to do was to cement the area, we’re going to put down concrete around the roundabout so that the area, potholes and people dodging potholes, won’t cause an accident.”
Jules Vasquez,
First you built one size of roundabout without consultation, without any scientific, the Mayor went to New Zealand and saw some there, that is the best understanding I got. But I am saying it looks like it is just fits and starts, there is no plan – bwoy mek we try this or mek we try that. What is the plan? Where did you get the idea from? Why isn’t it the right idea?
Dean Samuels,
“Jules with all due respect, when it comes to roundabouts there was proper consultation before these ideas even came about. Again we have a traffic advisory committee. We sit and we meet and we go over everything before we implement.”
There’s no stated completion date for the roundabout at this time.
