Late this evening six people were rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after a serious traffic accident. It occurred around 4:30 between miles 20 and 21 on the western highway and involved two or possibly as many as four vehicles. But the main collision was with a Ford Windstar minivan and a Ford Ranger pickup. Mitchell Lewis was in the Ranger heading was heading on a hunting trip and he told Keith Swift what happened.

“Me and my father in law and one of my good friends were going to take a little hunting at mile 27 and we just left from Hattieville and we were driving about 40 miles per hour and when we reached on this curve you had a couple who looked like they just came from States in their mobile home. They had like six or seven of them in a row and the guy, they said he is a police inspector, was driving a vehicle which looked like it just came from States with a car at the back because none of the vehicles had license plate. So when we reached at the curve we were in the same line where all the vehicles that came from States were in going towards the western part of the country.
And we reached on the curve here, the guy looked like he was tired of driving slow behind us and he overtake and when he overtake, this green van was coming fast. But it looked like because the green van was coming fast, he was in the wrong lane too and when the guy saw the van coming he tried to swerve back in front of we and when he swerved back the car made him lose control of what he was towing and the green van didn’t want to crash into the car so the green van ran off the road across there and lost control and came back on the road and when it came on back, it was right into the pickup we were in.”

“The guy who overtake and this van because this van was coming very fast too.”
Police could not confirm the involvement of any other vehicles since only two vehicles were on the accident scene. Again there were no fatalities but six people with varying injuries were taken by ambulance to the KHMH. The accident caused a major traffic backup on the Western Highway and also resulted in a power outage in the Hattieville area.
