Barrington Carr-Williams is crippled and that’s what saved the 55 year old from going to jail today for selling crack. Carr-Williams was busted in his home on July 17th of 2008 along with Clive Gentle. Police searched the house and found 13.3 grams of crack and $877 in cash –which police believe may have money he made from selling drugs.
Both men pleaded not guilty but Gentle maintained his innocence – saying that he was at the house to buy wine. Carr-Williams confessed to the court that he was holding the drugs for a friend. Magistrate Sharon Frazer acquitted Gentle but convicted Barrington Carr-Williams. She could have sent him to jail but considering his disability and the possibility that the Hattieville Prison does not have the facilities to accommodate him – she fined him $10,000. He has to pay it by the end of May or he’ll spend 3 years in jail. He was also bound over to keep the peace which means he has to stay out of trouble for two years or he’ll go to jail.
His legal worries aren’t over because he has another drug charge to answer. This is for drug possession of 2.1 grams of crack which was found when police searched his yard on August 30th of 2008. That is six weeks after he was busted with the 13.3 grams of crack. He also has a previous conviction for drugs dating back ten years.
