You may remember Gion Bernard as the gunman accused of robbing Doony’s Store on Albert Street in August of 2008. Well today, Bernard who’s been before the court fifteen times for assorted charges was back again today for breaking into a car. And this time Magistrate Dorothy Flowers had to give him a custodial sentence after she found him guilty on one count of theft and one count of damage to property.

Bernard denied committing the crime although he was found with the car’s insurance stickers. He begged the court for leniency as he has two children ages 4 and 2 whose present living conditions are not satisfactory. But although the Magistrate told him she considered what he said and that he asked for leniency, she could not impose a non-custodial sentence since he had a previous conviction for theft. With that, she sentenced him to two six months period for the charge of theft and damage to property.

On December 16, of last year Bernard escaped going to jail after he was found guilty of theft for stealing a woman’s car battery and he was fined $3,000.
