Two weeks ago, police killed an armed robber who had just robbed a Hispanic female food vendor. Well early this morning another Hispanic female vendor was targeted, this one a fruit vendor. This time, no gun was used, but there was a knife – and it paid off for the robber who jacked $820 from Lillian Lara. But today she told Jacqueline Godwin that she knows who did it.
Jacqueline Godwin Reporting,
Forty seven year old Lillian Sanchez a fruit vendor of number 170 East Collet Canal is lucky to be alive after she as held up and knife point and robbed of over eight hundred dollars. The vicious attack occurred on Thursday morning by this laundromat only a short distance away from where the victim lives.
Lillian Sanchez, Robbery Victim
“I was coming from the market around seven thirty in the morning. Well I think the man knew I had some money and followed me and he tried to catch me by the alley there but I tried to come quickly to my place but the man caught me by the Laundromat over there. He threatened me with a knife and kicked me in the back and punched me and so I could not do anything because I had a knife to me so I just gave him the money and the man just ran away with the money”
As a suspect known only as Solomon repeatedly kicked Lillian in her back, the vicious assault was witnessed by many people in the area but no one came to the rescue of the victim. The man stole a total of eight hundred and seventy dollars. Lillian Sanchez says the money was to pay wholesale fruit vendors she owed for the produce she retails from her stall.
Lillian Sanchez,
“I have been selling fruits and vegetables for the past seven months and this is the first time I was attacked and held up. Because of what happened, I will no longer go to the market to pay the people but ask them come to my place of business.
But I know the man who held me up but I know him only as Solomon, a man I have seen selling newspapers by Xtra House Supermarket. I have also told the police this but sometimes the police just catch them and let them go. Ii know people have a hard time but just like how I work hard to make an honest living, people should do that instead of stealing from others. “
Today Lillian Sanchez complains of pains in the back. The bicycle cart she was riding at the time was also damaged as the man kicked it to stop Lillian Sanchez from riding away. Jacqueline Godwin reporting for 7News.
Although the police was given a name of the suspect and where he could be located so far no one has been detained.
