Belmopan police say a pair of teenaged brothers are responsible for the gruesome murder of well known Belmopan businesswoman sixty six year old Rosa Cristina Cornejo. The accused are eighteen year old Herson Sanchez and sixteen year old Jose Alberto Sanchez – one of them used to work for her.
Police say they have received credible information that not only places the brothers inside her residence but both were seen removing her lifeless body from the house. From there, they took it to an isolated area off mile forty six on the Western Highway where they burned the body.
Police information says that Cornejo was killed in her home by someone she knew and who was familiar with the residence. There were no signs of forced entry. Because reports are that Cornejo was in her nightgown it is not certain if she had opened the door for anyone to enter the house or if the businesswoman was killed while she was in bed. And while they now have the persons responsible for the murder they have yet to determine a motive or how she was killed.
Rosa Christina Cornejo went missing sometime on the night of Friday April seventeenth- her maid discovered that she was missing on Saturday and on Sunday, police found Cornejo’s vehicle on a feeder road off mile forty six on the Western Highway. The pickup truck’s keys were still in the ignition. Then twelve days later and about half a mile away in the woods police recovered her burnt remains.
