A senior Ministry of Housing employee has been fingered for misappropriation of funds – and those pointing the fingers are leading figures in the UDP.
Wave Radio's "Fus Thing Da Mawning" broke the story, reporting - with some outrage - that a senior officer in the Ministry drew up and authorized bogus vouchers for tyres which were never purchased and a grant allocation, with both totalling ten thousand dollars. Their information was that rather than being suspended or criminally charged, this person was simply being transferred to another ministry.
When we reached CEO Dwight Tillett to ask if the allegations were true and if an investigation had been initiated, he said he that he couldn't confirm or deny and depending on the outcome of a meeting tonight – possibly something will be said by tomorrow or the next day. Our reports say that the fraud occurred in the recent changeover between CEO's.
This evening, it was confirmed from our sources in the public service that the public officer was slated to be transferred to the Ministry of Natural Resources today but was ordered to go on leave after the news broke on the morning talk show.
