There has been no resolution in the standoff between Sadie Vernon High’s teachers and the principal joined by her board of directors. As we’ve reported – on Thursday the teachers staged a mass sickout – forcing the Ministry of Education to send home the school’s 250 students.

The sickout was in protest of board and principal’s decision to remove the teacher’s representative on the board and install her own. That was the culmination of a long series of differences. And with all that bad blood, it has been hard getting both sides to sit at the same negotiating table and that’s why yesterday the Ministry of Education held separate meetings with the staff and the board.

The information from those separate meetings will now be reconciled. Deputy Chief Education Officer Carol Babb told us yesterday that she expects the situation to be resolved by next week. Until it is though – classes are expected to continue as normal.
