Imagine being attacked by several men at least two of them armed with a knife and a machete yet still managing to make it out unscathed.... That’s just what twenty seven year old Police Constable Roger Novelo says happened to him. Novelo told police that around one thirty on Sunday morning, he was walking home alone on La Croix Street when he was confronted by six men. One of them was armed with a knife, but Novelo managed to wrest it away and then and stabbed the knifeman to his abdomen. That is when the five other men charged at Novelo with a machete but he managed to escape without injury. The wounded alleged assailant was later identified as thirty two year old Jason Zetina, a Belizean labourer of 2b Flamboyant Street in Belize City. That’s his story, but it’s not an open and shut case. Police Press Officer Clement Palacio told us that Constable Novelo who is attached to the Traffic Branch in Belize City was not on duty and what they are trying to determine is who is telling the truth.

Jacqueline Godwin,

How is the police treating this case?

Clement Palacio, Police Press Officer
“Well I must say that what has happened is that because there are conflicting statements given to the police, there is an investigation that is taking place to corroborate statements that have been made about this matter.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
Do we know what PC Novelo is saying in his defense and what the alleged assailant Mr. Zetina is saying in his defense?

Clement Palacio,
“Since this matter is under investigation, it wouldn’t be proper for me to comment on what has been said. We know that there are conflicting statements therefore we will await the process that is currently being conducted by internal affairs and we shall make what is the ultimate determination public.”

Jason Zetina has been discharged from the KHMH.
