In the broad daylight shootout with armed robbers at the regent street Western Union Branch on May 2nd, Anchor security guard Glenford Williams was hit. He was sitting in his guard booth in the parking lot when the three males with handkerchiefs over their faces ambushed and then shot him in his arm. And after the shootout with another security guard inside the building – the gunmen fled – but not before returning to the guard booth and shooting Glenford Williams again. The second bullet penetrated Glenford’s right ribcage, damaging his major organs. That is why tonight – close to three weeks after he was shot – Glenford Williams is still in the hospital. But more than hospitalized – he is in a critical condition at the Healthcare Partners Hospital. He is an induced a coma after he underwent his 5th surgery yesterday. His mother Melva Williams has been at his bedside and she told us the prognosis is not good.
Melva Williams, Mother
“They shot him in his side and the doctor said the bullet gone down tore up his entire intestine. Everything in him is damaged; his kidney, his liver, his intestine, his bladder. Everything, everything damaged.”
Keith Swift,
What has been done for him so far, I know he was at the KHMH and now he is at Healthcare Partners? How many surgeries?
Melva Williams,
“Five already. He got five. He got three across at Karl Heusner and he got two over this side.”
Keith Swift,
What is his condition right now Miss Melva?
Melva Williams,
“Very critical, critical. They have right now under this coma thing and the doctor says that he is critical. So nobody can’t see him, only me and his wife. No visitors. They say they will have him under that until Saturday, so I don’t know. I was asking why and they said for his own good because he has to be like that to get healing because he has a lot of infection, bad infection which he picked up at Karl Heusner.
So far the doctor says that if he pulls through this he will survive but he is very critical but they are trying, they are trying their best to see what they can do for him. They are trying hard.”
Keith Swift,
I know that one of the major needs is blood. Tell me about that.
Melva Williams,
“He needs blood, lots of blood because he got five pints at Karl Heusner and he needs more because we have to put back the five pints plus he got five blood. So we would really need anybody who is a blood donor to help us with some blood because we bring people but all the people we bring, if they don’t have high blood pressure, they have diabetes and so they don’t take it. That is our problem right now, blood and his criticalness.”
Doctors by the way have been unable to locate the bullet which is still lodged somewhere inside Glenford’s body. Again he needs blood and anyone who can assist can simply donate blood to the Belize Blood Bank in his name or contact his mother Melva Williams at 607-5253. Police last week charged Brandon Taylor with a slew of 14 charges for the robbery attempt. He along with two 16 year olds have been fingered as the culprits.
