This morning 30 police officers and civilian staff at the Police Department received certificates for outstanding performance in the months of March and April. But there were only two officers of the month – Police Constable Leroy Flowers who is attached to the Special Branch was the officer of the month for March. April’s top cop was Constable Dirk Sutherland who is a special branch attached to Ladyville Police Sub-formation. They told us about their commitment to the job.

PC Leroy Flowers, Officer of the Month - March
“Honestly speaking, I feel great about it however it is hard work and dedication that goes on. I joined the Department because due to the discipline I had when I was growing up.”

Keith Swift,
What do you think other officers can learn from you? What do you hope other officers can learn from you?

PC Leroy Flowers,
“Well basically it is discipline. Discipline is what I say most of my officers need to understand and listen to commands.”

PC Dirk Sutherland, Officer of the Month - April
“To tell you the truth Keith it feels no way because I am being paid to do this job but what I can say to you is that the people of Ladyville and it surroundings will benefit from this award because this award encourages me to work even harder and to love my people and to keep them safe.”

Sr. Supt. Miguel Segura, 2nd OIC – Eastern Division
“The message I am sending them is to stay the course. the course of doing that service to the community, what we swore to do. Some other officers who have diverted from that to encourage them join part of what is truly sincerely the desire of what a police officer is. So these officers that are exemplary, that we want other officers to follow and follow the footsteps.”

PC Dirk Sutherland,
“I was once a police officer but I changed my career to policing because I believe in policing I can serve my people more better.”

Keith Swift,
And the job is fulfilling to you?

PC Dirk Sutherland,
“Definitely Keith. It is fulfilling because it is rewarding to when you are at the station and you have people come and report stuff missing and you recover it for them, it gives you a good sense of feeling.”
