Taximan Busted with 25 Pounds of Weed

It’s not quite a “three o’clock roadblock,” but it’s close enough as Brian Morieira, a taxi-driver of San Ignacio was allegedly busted with almost 25 pounds of cannabis before 6:00 this morning at a police checkpoint. Today he was charged with drug trafficking when he appeared in Belize City Magistrate’s Court. The court could not offer him bail, due to the volume of weed he was caught with. Magistrate Sharon Fraser remanded him into custody until August 13th.

Around 5:40 am Morieira was traveling from San Ignacio to Belize City when he was stopped at a police check point between miles 25 and 26 on the Western Highway. Police reported that when he was approaching they saw him throw a bag into the bushes, and when they retrieved it they found that it was stuffed with 11.25 kilos of cannabis. The bust was made by a Special Patrol Unit.
