Today Crime Stoppers launched a fundraising raffle. If you don’t know already, Crimestoppers are the folks that operate the 0-800-922-TIPS hotline. Now, normally raffle prizes are money, airplane tickets, or maybe even a car. But this grand prize is a house. It has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, dining room, mahogany ceiling and floor, and it even comes fully furnished. 7News found out more when we visited Old Belize for the launch.
Francis Woods, Crime Stoppers
“It is a fundraiser for Crime Stoppers. Our main purpose is to raise
money to help us with our costs and we figured that a house would be an excellent, something that a lot of people could use. We hope that the prison will start building homes like this, a little smaller but very economical homes for the general public to purchase up at the Kolbe Foundation. The proceeds will go to help Crime Stoppers do its stuff. Directly I would say a lot of it would go to rewards, whenever someone calls in a successful tip they get a reward.
We are going to be picking the winning ticket September 13th at the expo at SJC Gym. We just have to coordinate the logistics of moving the house to that person’s lot. I hope it is very successful in that we sell all the tickets we want and we hope that it becomes an annual event, that people could look forward to a chance to win a beautiful house every year.”
They have hopes of selling 10,000 raffle tickets by September to support the ongoing efforts of Crime Stoppers in Belize. Tickets are available at Habet & Habet, Brothers Habet, Old Belize, and Love FM. The raffle will be drawn at the 2009 EXPO at the SJC Gym.
