It’s not everyday that someone is wheeled into a courtroom to testify against the person on trial, who left him paralyzed. It was symbolically powerful when Kareem Wright did that yesterday in the trial against the man who allegedly shot him in the neck and crushed his spine. And that’s why it came as a surprise to courtroom observers today when the jury of 7 women and 2 men were unable to reach a verdict in the trial of 23 year old Marvin Cruz Reyes who was being charged with attempted murder. They deliberated for about four hours.

Director of Public Prosecutions, Cheryl Lynn Branker-Taitt will decide whether Reyes will get a retrial. Meanwhile, Reyes is on remand on a charge of murder for the shooting of Herman “Yagga” Morris.
