Two hundred children are participating in the police department’s annual summer program. It began yesterday and will continue through to July 22nd, at the Yarborough community center. Police Constable Stacey Smith is one of the coordinators.

“Well you know you want them to leave with a feeling of something – success or completion. And also it’s in a tight for us, as the police department to familiarize the children with police. So seeing the police it won’t only be when they come to arrest nor do something in reference to the law, but also to help.”

“The two week summer program focuses on several activities related to social issues but also looking at ways we can build self esteem. Looking at how we can install morals, disciplines, and ethics in some of these kids.”

These children will be into sporting activities we can some NGO’s coming along giving some educational lectures. We have some teachers who have offered to assist us in math, and reading, and stuff like that.”
The Police Department’s Annual Camp will be held later this month.
