This weekend 29 year old Hotel Manager Alejandro Uck was killed in San Pedro. It happened early on Saturday morning, the product, apparently of a very drunken, very violent brawl. I spoke to his family today to find out more about this senseless death.

Reports say that twenty eight year old Alejandro Uck was neither shot nor chopped but pushed down several flights of stairs and died some three hours later at the San Pedro Medical Clinic. Rolando Uck says he first saw his brother around two thirty Saturday morning. He was in the back of a pickup truck by the police station and no one appeared to be in a rush to get him medical treatment.

“Well I saw my brother right behind the police pickup at the police station asking for help and there was only two police there. I don’t know how long my brother was there.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“How did he look, what were his injuries?”
Rolando Uck,
“He was really…he suffering from pain. He was asking for help, asking for help and nobody, we tried calling the doctor but 30 minutes after that we get the number and we called the doctor and the police took us to the hospital.”
The Uck family who are from Succotz Village say their loved one was senselessly killed because he simply tried to collect money from a person who had owed him money.

“Well he was telling me that he felt pain in his heart and his belly like it is going to explode and he asked me for water. At that moment the doctor was attending to a next lady that was pregnant and I stayed with my brother there and he told me how they beat him up. That is how I managed to know the guy that beat him up. He told me it was Ricky, he was telling me Ricky and I started to scold him because you know it was around twelve o’clock in the morning that he went to collect money from him. He told me it has been like two months he had been owed the money.”

That this Mr. Pena had owed your brother?
Rolando Uck,
“Yes because when Mr. Pena was not working, my brother he used to buy food and pay his rent because Mr. Pena promised him that he was going to pay him back.
He was beaten to death. He told me, because I asked him how he beat him,
how Ricky Pena beat him, and he told me that he pushed him from the stairs but he was drunk but he still remembered. He remembered he was in Ricky’s place.”

And what, he fell two storeys down?
Rolando Uck,
“No it was from the stairs Ricky Pena pushed him down, that is what he told me and that is what he was telling me while he tried to relax. I told him just to relax and I was right beside him.”
San Pedro Police have confirmed that they do have Enrique Pena better known as Ricky in custody but no charges as yet because the case remains under investigation.
Rolando Uck,
“They have the guy in custody that did it.”

Is he saying anything?
Rolando Uck,
“Well I don’t yet. I think he is telling that there were other people that beat him up. I don’t know if it is true but my brother told me that it was Ricky because I talked to him before he died.”
The Uck family denies reports that their son and brother was in the company of friends drinking when an argument started and Alejandro Uck fell from a two storey building.

Do you believe if your brother had gotten immediate medical attention he would be alive today?
Rolando Uck,
“Yes because that happened around twelve o’clock or I don’t what happened because his friends told me that how he was behind the pickup, the police pickup, he was more than thirty minutes there and when I went there I saw two police, they were younger than me.”

The incident happened after 12 so how long after did he receive medical care?
Rolando Uck,
“He received medical care around three o’clock in the morning.”
We are not sure if any charges will be brought against Enrique Pena better known as Ricky but the family say whoever is responsible should be brought to justice.

“I am going to church serving God who is my savior. The bible says who so ever do you bad, try to do good. I leave it in the hands of God and God will decide what to do because God is just. I cannot do anything only God.”
Twenty eight year old Alejandro Uck had moved to San Pedro Ambergris Caye in the early nineties.
Police have charged Pena for a single count of manslaughter. And the reason the charge is manslaughter is because the two men went to Pena’s house and demanded a chip for a camera. Pena replied that there is a blackout, it is late and he is with his wife and so it would have to be left for another time. Uck then reportedly barged into his house and started debating him up – the struggle ensued and that’s when Uck tumbled down the flight of stairs.
