He lost his right leg in an electrocution in May of 2006 and on Monday David Bahadur almost lost his life. Bahadur who has a prosthetic leg was fishing with two friends on Monday afternoon near Grass Caye in Toledo when there was a boating accident. He lived to tell the story and he told it to Keith Swift yesterday from his hospital bed.

Keith Swift Reporting,
His left elbow is broken and his pelvis is shattered but 27 year old David Bahadur is lucky be alive after he was run over by a boat while fishing on Monday.

David Bahadur, Run Over by Boat
“We saw the TIDE boat coming our way, we thought the TIDE boat would just come and do its usual patrol and check us to see if we had anything illegal or do their usual job and when the boat got a few distance from us we got conscious that nobody was at the front of the boat and they didn’t really see us but all this while we thought they were coming to check us. But when it got so close to us we found out that they didn’t see us so those guys decided for all of us to jump out because the boat was already on us and we jumped out and I ended up being the one to get cut.”

Wilford Jacobs, Involved in Accident
“This boat just came straight up on us and run us over and by the time it run us over we had to jump to water to save our lives.”

David Bahadur,
“The boat passed right where I was and that is how I ended up with the cut on my hand and the one on my side.”

Wilford Jacobs,
“They were like running, we had to holler after them to come back to retrieve us when at that time I went and dived for David who was hurt and bring him and trying to float him back and swim with him. And that is when the boat came in and they just dragged him in the boat. All that time when I saw the hand it was awful, it was….mein you wouldn’t like to see it.

It was terrible because come on it is our life and hey, these guys just like they didn’t do anything. The police didn’t charge them. I did give a police statement, me and Solomon also so we would want something from this because they are responsible for this.”

Bahadur received multiple injuries.

David Bahadur,
“I get cut on my elbow, I broke this elbow and I fractured in my pelvis here.”

Keith Swift,
“What are the doctors telling you?”

David Bahadur,
“Well the doctor told me I will have to wait a little while, I can’t walk with this leg because it is fractured and my hand I can’t use right now.”

Bahadur believes the accident was negligence on the part of tide’s boat and Bahadur who previously lost his right leg in another accident wants justice.

David Bahadur,
“The guys were at the stern of the boat and they had their bow straight up and they could only see the two sides, they couldn’t see at the front. If they had a guy at the front of their boat they would have seen us. All this time when this boat was coming to us we thought those guys saw us, we thought they came for the usual checkup and thing like I said but when the boat got so close we realized that they didn’t see us and when the boat came and knocked our one, all of us got dropped to water and when the boat swing around I noticed all the guys were at the back of the boat. Nobody was on the bow and that is why they didn’t see us.”

Keith Swift,
“What do you want to say to TIDE?”

David Bahadur,
“I want to tell TIDE they have to help me with my bills because we are bruk. I don’t have nothing. I was trying to fish to make at least food itself.”

Cancy Ramclam, David’s mother
“I just want them to know they have to help me with all the expenses and try, they have to mine him until he gets better, him and his wife and his baby and they have to give him some kind of compensation because they had the fault.”

Keith Swift,
“What has TIDE told you?”

Cancy Ramclam,
“Well they were telling me that the insurance would help but yesterday Miss Mahung told me the insurance won’t cover the thing again. She didn’t tell me anything more so I feel like I am on my own which I don’t think that should work.”

Keith Swift,
“Did you ever thing you would be in a situation like this again, another unfortunate accident?”

David Bahadur,
“I thought the electrocution would have been the last hurt for me but it looks like I am just had lucked. I was at the wrong spot at the wrong time.”

David Bahadur who has a 3 year old son and is married will remain hospitalized for at least the next two months. TIDE’s Director Celia Mahung told us this evening by phone from Punta Gorda that her organization is doing what it can to assist the family. She says the tide personnel on the boat didn’t see the brightly coloured dory Bahadur and his friends were in until it was too late. She says police are investigating and she declined commenting on who was at fault. She says they took Bahadur to the hospital and will continue doing what she described as the little they can.
