It’s been almost two weeks since 17 year old Kevin Francis Jex died. He was found hanging at the rear of BTIA’s office on North Park Street last Monday. Police say it was suicide but the family maintains that it was homicide and claim that the police were involved. His frustrated uncle Elton Jex has been building a case and today he laid it out for us. He says that on the Friday night before he died, Kevin along with another 16 year old held up and robbed a policeman of his phone and bicycle. He believes police caught up with his nephew and they tortured and then killed him. It is a wild accusation but Jex says he has witnesses to back him up. The problem is that those witnesses don’t want to talk. He however remains undeterred.
Elton Jex, Uncle
“The new information I learnt is that my nephew had committed a robbery on the Friday night before he went missing. Remember that police were looking for the two persons that same night, despite the fact that they didn’t know who Kevin is because Kevin was disguised. My belief is that it is the same Charles Neal who is the one that identified Kevin to police and I believe that

the police had caught up with Kevin and whatever they had done with him resulted in his death.
No everything is adding up in my point of view, that Kevin’s death was caused by that bicycle and that cellular phone that had been robbed on Friday night from the officer.
I personally believe that the position where they found him, I believe he was already murdered when they took him there.
Why is it so important to bring closure? Because I want to see justice serve and I want to find out, I want them to investigate and find out the person who murdered my nephew. I know that my nephew was murdered. I’ve been saying it from the get start. I believe my nephew was murdered.
The way the police were behaving at the crime scene it didn’t seem to me that they wanted to do any kind of investigation. They had already made up their mind that the young man hanged himself and I said to him that is unfair for you to come to that conclusion. So all I am saying to the media is that we want justice.”
Police have not formally certified the death a suicide. They say it is under investigation and have invited Jex to bring forth whatever witnesses he has. The key witness would be “Kareem” – the young man who allegedly committed the robbery along with Kevin Francis. Kevin was a high school student and he turned 17 on the day he went missing.
