And in news of one more traffic accident.... It has been two weeks since thirty two year old Jackie Bermudez, a single mother of a ten year old boy, was knocked down and killed by a hit and run driver and Dangriga Police have yet to make an arrest. Although at the scene police did recover a part of a vehicle they suspect came from the vehicle they believe belonged to an Isuzu Pickup truck that some reports suggest is gold in colour authorities have yet to find the driver responsible or the vehicle involved.
Today, we contacted Dangriga police for an update on the fatality. According to authorities during their initial investigation they did detain and question Elvis Zabaneh who is the owner of a Dmax Isuzu pickup truck. He was released after police could not link him or the vehicle to the crime. Today however police say they are now investigating a report made by Elvis Zabaneh that some time early last week his vehicle caught fire and was completely destroyed by the blaze.
According to police they have since determined based on their ongoing investigation that the vehicle was deliberately set on fire. Why? Is anybody’s guess but the incident does raise suspicion and that is why police say they are not ruling out any possibilities. Following a night of socializing on Sunday July 25, thirty two year old Jackie Bermudez was riding her bicycle home when she was knocked down and left for dead.
Two hours later police were notified about a body seen lying off on the road side in some bushes. The police found Bermudez barely alive and rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital but she died on the way. Today, Dangriga police are appealing to anyone who can provide them with information that can lead them to their hit and run driver to contact the nearest police station.
