This week Police in Ladyville received training in how to put on handcuffs. Sounds kinda simple right? Because we’d expect police and handcuffs to go – and you’ll excuse the pun – hand in hand.
But they don’t. Seems many police don’t have handcuffs handy.
Some friends of the Ladyville police in the states picked up on that and donated 30 pair as well as the know how on the fine art of bangles application.
Officer in Charge of Ladyville Calbert Flowers explained
Inspector Calbert Flowers, OIC Ladyville
“This training is what we call the pressure point control technique. The training involves various techniques aiming specifically at disarming a person who is armed, a person who is armed perhaps with a pistol or a knife or some small object and the police officer is unarmed. That police officer is being trained to disarm that person while using very minimal force.”
“The whole objective here is to teach police officers to do their work effectively and efficiently using the minimum force necessary. We have received several complaints about alleged police brutality particularly in this Ladyville area.
“The training also teaches them some techniques in using the handcuffs, the proper use of a handcuff especially when somebody is resisting and giving a hard time.”
Darrell Webb, Illinois Police Department
“We brought 30 pair of handcuffs and we brought them down we knew that since they didn’t have a lot of those we wanted to make sure they understood the proper techniques and application.”
_All those officers who participated got something like a bangles competency certificate and a pair of handcuffs.
