He was charged for murder in 2008, pleaded down to manslaughter last week and today forty two year old Chinese businessman Yong Sheng Zhang, a storeowner and father of 6 was sentenced to 14 years in jail.
In handing down her decision justice Michelle Arana said she took into account the fact that Yong Sheng Zhang had pleaded guilty and saved the court time, stated that he was sorry for what he had done and that he had no previous convictions.
Before justice Michelle Arana sentenced Yong Sheng Zhang, a total of seven character witnesses testified on the accused man’s behalf.
Zhang’s fourteen year sentence should take effect from March 30th, 2008 when he was remanded into custody.
In March of 2008 Sheng Zhang walked into the window factory owned by his fifty year old countryman Chi Cheong Chang, at mile three and a half on the Northern Highway and shot him and his wife.
Sources tell 7news that Zheng shot Chan because Chan owed him over a hundred thousand dollars.
