And just as residents in Santa Clara were mourning the death of one villager, they lost another in less than 24 hours on the same stretch of highway. Police report that on Friday night around 10:30 – 39 year old Cesar Aban was on the right hand side of the highway walking to his home in Santa Clara Village when he stumbled on the highway and was hit by a white car travelling north. The driver fled the scene of the accident and Cesar Aban died.

The tragic twist is that Cesar Aban was returning from visiting the home of Diego Sanchez his close friend who, as we told you earlier, was killed on the Northern Highway the night before. Cesar’s brother Facundo Aban appealed to the driver who killed his brother to surrender.

Facundo Aban, Brother of Deceased
“I saw him about midday when I was coming from Corozal, I saw him riding the bike by San Roman.

They told me had gone to see the next friend who got killed, Diego Sanchez and he was coming back towards his house and right there it happened, the accident.”

Keith Swift,
“So he went to see the Diego who was

killed in Louisville?”

Facundo Aban,
“Yes and he was on his way back home, he was going home.”

Keith Swift,
“Was he drunk?”

Facundo Aban,
“Well he drank some drink from his next friend but I don’t know.”

Keith Swift,
“The person who knocked down your brother they just continued driving they didn’t stop, what would you like to say to that person?”

Facundo Aban,
“Well I just want him to recognize that he knocked this person down and this person is not an animal because we don’t want nothing like that. You knock a person, you must know that is a person and you must come and tell what happened and make an arrangement because he left two kids and they need something too.”

Anyone with information about who knocked down and killed Cesar Aban can contact the nearest police station. Both men will be buried in their home village of Santa Clara.
