A 15 year old girl says she was raped inside her bedroom on Friday morning. The minor says that at around 1:45 am she woke to someone touching her leg. She got up and that’s when she saw a man sitting on a sofa next to her. She says she was choked, and ordered to keep quiet. She did during which she was raped. The man then fled. Police investigations reveal that the rapist got in the teenager’s room by removing wooden louvers from her window. Police say they know who they are looking for but haven’t found him.
In Toledo another 15 year old was sexually violated but the perpetrator wasn’t an intruder, it was the minor’s adult boyfriend – 21 year old Rigo Zuniga. In the company of her aunt, the minor told Punta Gorda Police that on November 18th and again on December 4th she had sexual relations with Zuniga who she refers as her boyfriend. Police have charged Zuniga with 2 counts of unlawful carnal knowledge.
And in Orange Walk, a mother’s refusal to let her daughter see her boyfriend is what apparently caused the 15 year old to kill herself. On Sunday morning - 15 year old Sonia Guadalupe Pena’s family found her hanging from a beam in her home in Carmelita Village. She was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital but pronounced dead at 8:55. Just prior to her suicide, Pena’s family had denied her request to go on a date with her boyfriend. Pena then locked herself in her room and she was later found hanging from a beam with a belt around her neck.
