Jason Joseph was in Magistrate’s Court today – for a routine remand hearing for a case of aggravated assault. It was a routine hearing and it should have ended with an adjournment, but a most unusual thing happened...Joseph’s girlfriend Leisha McCulloch slipped him a two dollar note which was – get this – stuffed with marijuana.
Now this happened, in the courtroom and right in front of the Magistrate! Now, it was only point-8 grammes but Magistrate Aretha Ford was none too pleased so both Joseph and McCulloch who allegedly passed him the marijuana were charged for possession. Joseph took the charged and pleaded guilty– but Magistrate Ford told Joseph that she will not give him a fine because he had disrespected the court. So instead of a fine, he was confined; she sentenced him to three months which will run concurrent to any other sentence he is serving.
And his girlfriend pleaded not guilty to the charge. Now normally with his guilty plea the charge would be dropped against her, but the prosecution did not withdraw the charge. She was offered bail of five hundred dollars. The handover was noted by caporal Randy Sanchez who saw the cannabis being passed and pointed out to the Chief Magistrate who was in the courtroom at the time.
