A hit and run driver who knocked down and killed an elderly man is tonight on the run. 61 year old Alfonso Goff was hit at mile one and a half on the Western Highway at around 6:30 last night twice. He was knocked down by what witnesses described as a cream coloured car with taxi license plates. Shortly after that another vehicle, a Chevy Blazer driven by Charles Gardiner also ran over Alfonso Goff. And that is where we found him on the scene last night.
Keith Swift Reporting,
When we arrived at mile one and a half at 7:30 pm, 61 year old Alfonso Goff was still pinned under the green Chevy Blazer. Charles Edwards who is a security guard in the area saw the accident unfold.
Charles Edwards, Eyewitness
“I saw the guy coming from that direction with his bicycle. When he reached at about this area here, a upcoming taxi from that direction hit the

guy. After it hit the guy, the taxi swerved a distance and after that it straightened up and it went. So when I hear the bang and the vehicle gone, I noticed that the guy was down here. So that is when his bike was on the side over there. From my point of view, I think it was the guy that was driving the taxi because after he hit the guy, as I told you he continued with a pile of speed up that way.”
Allen Bonaire, Stepson of Deceased
“They told me my sister’s father died and I asked if this was a prank because come on, it was just something sudden. The man was up, going, everything he did.”
And most likely – his family believes Alfonso Goff was walking his bike home on the side of the highway when he was struck by a cream in colour four door. Whoever hit him is still on the run.
Allen Bonaire,
“The man has a family, the man has a home. If he was walking his bike, his bike might was punctured. Deal what unu have to deal with. Face the consequences of unu foolish actions.”
Charles Edwards,
“It still left me shaken because I ride this road every night to go to work.”
Keith Swift,
“And you think they need to add lights in the area?”
Charles Edwards,
“They need to add lights, lots of lights because this could happen to anybody. But what I am saying is that the guy that hit him, he has his turn coming because he knows he hit somebody. After he hit the guy he swagged so he knew he hit something. Why didn’t he stop and check what he hit.”
Again the vehicle which initially hit Alfonso Goff if said to resemble a Toyota and it again is cream coloured. It reportedly has a missing rear view mirror from its passenger side. Anyone with information on who hit Alfonso Goff and fled the scene is asked to contact the Police or Crime Stoppers at 0-800-922-TIPS. Even though he didn’t knock down Goff, Charles Gardiner has been served a notice of intended prosecution. A sad end note is that 7 years ago, Alfonso Goff’s son Anton Goff was knocked down and killed on the same stretch of the Western Highway between miles 1 and 2.
