He broke into the shrimp box fast food shop in the BTL Park on Monday morning and today 35 year old Kenroy Cook broke down in tears when he confessed to the crime in open court. He pleaded guilty to burglary and committing a mischievous act. It happened between 1 and 6:50 am on Monday.
The shop’s owner Carlos Walker reported to police that Cook gained entry by tunnelling in through the lower portion of a wooden door. He stole a microwave oven, 13 peak caps, 6 cigarette lighters, and 4 plastic bracelets. Cook was busted with all the stolen items.
He pleaded guilty and Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie sentenced him to 5 years for the burglary. He also pleaded guilty to the committing a mischievous act charge because when he was first arrested – he told police his name was Allan Smith. Police later learnt that was a lie. For that charge, he was sentenced to 2 years in prison.
The sentences are to run concurrently so that is a total of 5 years but Chief Magistrate McKenzie told Cook that he had two outstanding warrants. The first was a 3 year sentence for a theft charge for which he was convicted ex-parte and the second was an 18 month sentence for damage to property. McKenzie stipulated that the 5 year sentence runs consecutive to the previous sentences and so cook will spend a total of 9 years and six months in jail.
