19 year old Ryan Alvarez will spend the next two years in jail for gun possession. This morning Magistrate Sharon Frazer found Alvarez guilty of keeping a.380 pistol without a gun license. The charge was for an incident on September 4th of 2008.

Police say that around midday on that day, Alvarez was riding his bicycle on Freetown Road when he looked back and saw a police mobile behind him. He turned onto Lancaster Street and the police mobile followed which is when they claim that he ditched his bike, jumped over a fence, and threw away a.380 pistol. In court, Alvarez testified that it was his cousin who jumped the fence and threw away the gun. He says that the only reason the police charged him was because he refused to comply with their demand to hand over an unlicensed firearm.

Magistrate Sharon Frazer didn’t find the story plausible and sentenced Alvarez to 2 years in prison. And Alvarez’s legal troubles aren’t over. He has a recent charge of aggravated assault with a firearm for which he is awaiting trial.
