In terms of robbery these days, the culprits made off with a small amount only thirty dollars but what is frightening is what transpired. The victim, Orange Walk taxi driver Amir Munoz reported that on Monday he was hired by three men of Creole descent to take them to Libertad Village. But what should have been a routine day on the job ended in a terrifying experience that almost cost the life of Amir Munoz.
Police reports are that the cab driver was taking his passengers to their destination but when the car passed between miles sixty five and sixty six on the Northern Highway that is when the men were in the back seat held up Amir Munoz. A knife was placed to the taxi driver’s throat as he was robbed of his cell phone and thirty dollars in cash.
Somehow Amir Munoz following a struggle with his attackers managed to make it out of his vehicle alive and without injury. But as he ran away into a nearby cane field, the armed robbers took off with his vehicle. Orange Walk Police later recovered the car, a Ford Escort. It was found abandoned in a nearby village. Authorities do have a lead in the case and hopefully an arrest will be made soon.
