She was convicted of beating her two year old daughter to death and today Shiann White was sentenced for the crime. After hearing mitigation please from White’s mother and Aunt, her attorney Phillip Palacio and White herself Justice Adolph Lucas sentenced her to 8 years in prison. The sentence will take effect from January 28, of this year when she was first found guilty.
When the sentence was handed down White appeared dejected – as if she expected a lesser sentence. She had told the court that she has three other children who will be without a mother when she goes to jail. Justice Lucas consoled her by telling her that with good behaviour she could get parole and serve a lesser sentence. After that, White was taken back to prison where she has been since she was convicted two weeks ago.
You’ll recall that in May of 2008 White confessed to police that she and her boyfriend had quarreled over food and when he left she became frustrated and she beat her daughter with a stick. A neighbor and family friend told 7News at the time that she found Delsey lying under a sheet stiff from the waist down and there was blood inside the child’s mouth, a cut on the throat and bruises all over the body. She was breathing heavily and the child was unconscious
Young Delsy White also had two fractures on her skull. She was rushed to the KHMH where she was placed on life support and died two days later. During court proceedings Dr. Mario Estradabran who conducted the post mortem examination testified that the child died from head trauma and that there were over ten injuries to the body.
