Policeman Darrell “Tutsi” Usher – he’s the one who the Galvez family says killed Chris Galvez and they have a witness who says the same thing in a sworn statement. But as we’ve reported a number of other witnesses say differently – and now police are re-interviewing them to get to the bottom of the story. Last night, Tutsi’s brother and father appeared on 7News declaring his innocence – and they’ve taken out an ad in the papers saying the same thing. They also told us – just as we reported – that Tutsi had indeed been consulted by Andre Aguilar on removing the license plates from the Land Cruiser he was driving.
Well, today we got a slightly revised position from a source close to Tutsi Usher who told us that the Constable never actually spoke to Aguilar about the plates or consented to let him take them off; he was in a group of police who Aguilar had asked for an ok to remove the plates, and he simply told them that “the man” – Aguilar – “is concerned about his welfare and that the uniformed officers should keep that in mind” – and with that – Usher left the scene.
As we reported. Aguilar allegedly told police that with the media – meaning Channel 7 on the scene – he was afraid that the license plates would appear on the news and the men who killed Galvez would trace the plates and get back to Aguilar or his family. Investigators have taken this to be a suspicious thing to do – and the Galvez family has keyed in on it as a sign of criminal collusion with police. Tutsi Usher’s family told us that the constable simply happened upon the scene – after hitching a ride from Hattieville – and heading to his family’s home which is on Faber’s Road. He was in civilian clothes and they say he was the first to call 911.
