Last night on this newscast Tifarah Young shared her embarrassment and personal anguish about the fact that explicit pictures of her had been posted on the internet. Well, the news tonight is that the site which displayed her pictures and those of many other un-consenting Belizean women is down. After the news aired an electronic sleuth who sympathized with her got on the internet did their thing and got the site taken down by early this morning.

Tifara Young told us she’s relieved and pleased with the outcome. The Women’s Department today said they too are pleased that the website is down too but expressed dissatisfaction with our story. They dispute however what Tifarah Young told us. As we reported, she said she came here after the police and women’s department couldn’t do anything for her.

Well, the Women’s Department said that they did not instruct her to go to the media but told her they could make a referral to the Police Department which they say she rejected. Of course she did because that had already been tried and failed. The Women’s Department says it is supporting Young in getting legal assistance.

But the bottom line in all this is that nothing the Police or the Women’s Department did or didn’t do got the site down. Our story did and thankfully, that’s the end of it – for the time being at least.
