Yesterday two armed robbers were intercepted after they robbed an Atlantic Bank security guard of his pistol. One of them was shot and he remains in the hospital pending charges. The other was taken to court today. He is 18 year old Kevin Abraham, of #14 Plues Street. He was charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery when he appeared in Magistrate’s Court today. He was also charged for keeping an unlicensed nine milimeter pistol loaded with ten live rounds. That is the weapon he allegedly stole from the security guard. Abraham pleaded not guilty but was remanded until May 18, because it is a firearm offence.
The other man who was with him has been identified as 18 year old Tyrone Westby and he will be charged with the same offences after he is discharged from the hospital. As we reported Westby was shot in the shoulder by a security guard as he was running from the Bank unto Magazine Road. At the same time, a police patrol pulled up and caught both he and Abraham.

At 2:30 yesterday, the pair along with a female and one other young man stopped at the bank. The young lady distracted the security guard who was on the verandah by asking him the time, and one of the men then pointed a gun at him and demanded his weapon. The security guard knocked away his weapon, and a struggle ensued. While they wrestled, the other man pulled the security guard’s 9 milimeter pistol from its holster on his waist. They got what they wanted and started to run off – but the other security guard who was inside the bank saw what was happening and chased after them.
Police are now saying that he fired six and not two shots. One of them hit Tyrone Westby who fell to the ground. Police are still looking for two other persons who were believed to have been involved. They are also believed to have escaped with the weapon that was put to the security guard’s head. At this time police aren’t saying if any of these men are being investigated for the armed robbery at Doony’s where another security guard’s gun was stolen.
