It was big news on February 22nd when Chairman of the Island Def Jam Music Group L.A. Reid flew into Belize on his private jet to sign a reported $7 million recording contract with Jamal Shyne Barrow. He told us he would personally be working with Shyne on the project. But according to US media reports, LA Reid’s days at the Island Def Jam may be numbered.
LA Reid has reportedly been criticized for signing the record deal with Shyne. Fuel was added to the fire of speculation about his future at Def Jam when he cancelled a speaking engagement last week. US media reports are that he was dodging the bullet and questions about his future at Def Jam.
LA Reid has worked with Usher, Mariah Carey, and TLC among others. Shyne will record his album in London.
