And there was a wild event at another large city primary school today – except this one happened in the principal’s office and involved two young female students. A 12 year old student attending Saint John’s Vianney Primary School was rushed to the emergency room this afternoon after she was attacked by another student. When we visited the school - the principal Felix Sutherland told us flat out that there was no stabbing incident. But the family of 12 year old Aaliyah Linares says she was stabbed with a sharp object multiple times by her standard six classmate – also another 12 year old girl. Her aunt spoke to us off camera.
Voice of Aunt,
“I found her cuts to the forehead, the neck, arms, and the person literally sliced her up. We went and we found out what happened. They said they had a little hard talk and they took two of them to the principal’s office. The principal said he had to eat something and he went to the back and he left two of them to the front and when during that wait when they were in the waiting area, the child pulled an edge tool, I don’t know if it is a knife or what but she sliced up my little niece. So we went to the teacher and when I came I found her in the yard faint away, it seems like she lost a lot of blood and she was frightened. She fainted.
They have to try and do something in those schools because why would you have edge tools hanging around with children. What kind of institution are they running? What is education coming to? It reaches to a point that my niece is afraid of coming to school because every time it something. If she wears a clothes they tease her, if she does this they tease. You are hesitant to even send them to school.”
Keith Swift,
“How is she doing now?”
Voice of Aunt,
“Well they didn’t explain to me how she is doing but she got some severe slices. They are not superficial, they are deep cuts she got.”
Keith Swift,
“The principal told me just now nothing happened.”
Voice of Aunt,
“Nothing happened and they are washing out the blood out of the office? The officers were here, the person from the forensics were here, and the ambulance was here. If nothing happened why were they here?”
As we told you – school principal Felix Sutherland told us there was no such incident. And that is why a short while ago, the mother of 12 year old Aaliyah Linares brought her daughter here to our studio to show us the injuries. Bernadette McKoy told us why she is disturbed that her daughter was attacked inside the principal’s office.
Bernadette McKoy, Mother of Child
“I am at home doing my work, I work at home, sitting there waiting to go and pick up a report card and I got a call from my sister at the Port telling me that my daughter had been stabbed. When she called me I didn’t know the seriousness of it because she said she fainted. So I was in a panic, I grabbed my little son and we went to the school and I myself nearly fainted when I saw what happened. The girl found an edge tool or something and started to stab up my daughter and this is what happened.”
McKoy made other very serious allegations during our interview but we must seek a response from the principal before we air them. A doctor has classified Aaliyah’s injuries as harm and McKoy says she will press charges.
