The close ties between the British government and the BDF were noted today when the High Commissioner for this G-8 nation handed over one whole van. 7News was there.
Jim McFadzean Reporting,
Today’s presentation of the $68,000 van which can seat 16 comfortably, will help to reduce the BDF’s dependency on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government agencies, when hosting its own increasing number of foreign dignitaries.
Brigadier General Dario Tapia, BDF Commander
“Many would ask why the need for a protocol van. The answer lies in three reasons, firstly the force vision calls us to become more engaged with regional and international partners as we seek to further expose the force to the world and to increase our own national security. As a result we have seen a steady increase of visiting foreign dignitaries as we seek their assistance and support to ensure the security and stability and prosperity of our nation. It was imperative that we have appropriate and reliable vehicle to transport them countrywide.”
Tapia says the Belize–UK partnership continues to benefit both countries, further citing that the legacy of Belizean history, leading before and after independence, has ensured that we continue to maintain strong ties with our former colonial ruler. His Excellency, High Commissioner, Pat Ashworth in presenting the spanking new vehicle, says his government and people will continue the excellent relationship with Belize and its people.
Pat Ashworth, British High Commissioner
“For the BDF, the British Government, the British Army will always be there giving each other a helping hand, always be there prepared to help each other, giving the final push and helping each other out on every occasion.”
