When 37 year old Ellis Meighan Senior was executed on Central American Boulevard in September of 2009, talk on the street was that the gunman was after his son, 17 year old Ellis Junior – and when he couldn’t find the younger Meighan, he turned the gun on his father.
Well now, two teenagers have been charged for shooting at Ellis Meighan Junior in a separate incident. 19 year old fisherman Anthony Barrow and a 17 year old SJC Extension student who allegedly fired shots at 17 year old Ellis Meighan Junior, were charged with aggravated assault and damage to property when they appeared today in Magistrate’s Court. They pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate Albert Hoare explained to them that the court cannot offer them bail because the offences were committed with a firearm. He remanded them into custody until April 30th.
The incident occurred around 9:30 A.M. on Monday of this week. Meighan reported to the police that he was riding his bicycle on Plues Street going towards Dean Street when he saw the defendants riding on bicycles coming from the opposite direction. Meighan said both defendants took out firearms when they saw him and began to fire shots at him.
He told police he jumped off his bicycle and ran into a yard and escaped unhurt. The charge of damage to property resulted from a report made by 45 year old taxi driver Lorenzo Banner who resides at the corner of Prince and Plues Streets. Banner reported to the police that he heard shots and when he checked, he saw that the hood of his red Ford Escort car was damaged by bullets. Banner and the minor were detained by the police about half an hour after the shooting.
