There was a shooting this morning just after eight in downtown Belize City. Tyron Garbutt was shot while walking at the corner of Albert and Prince Streets. That is in the heart of downtown Belize City – right beside Doony’s. And Garbutt is lucky to be alive because he was shot in the head but, incredibly, he survived and is talking to his family. Garbutt – who lives in the Los Lagos community – had just finished taking his girlfriend to work when police say he was shot from behind.
Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood,
“Upon reaching the junction of Prince and Albert Streets he was approached by a lone gunman who was riding a bicycle who fired a single shot at him hitting him in the right portion of the head back area. The bullet exited somewhere

around here and Mr. Garbutt was transported to the KHMH where he is listed in critical but stable condition.”
Keith Swift,
“You have any suspects?”
Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood,
“Not as yet. We are hoping that witnesses will come forward and help us to identify the orchestrator of this crime.”
Keith Swift,
“Has he been talking to police?”
Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood,
“Yes investigators have interviewed him but he was attacked from behind so there is not much that he can tell.”
Keith Swift,
“Do you believe he was the target since as you said he was shot from behind?”
Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood,
“He was shot at point blank range. I think he was the intended target. For what, we don’t know. He is saying he has no knowledge of anyone that would have any animosity towards him and he is saying he has no conflict with anyone so he wouldn’t know why anyone would make an attempt at his life.”
Police say they have no suspects and as Yearwood mentioned, he can’t think of who would want to harm him.
