A Belize City man is in critical condition at the KHMH after he was shot this morning. Just after 9:30 this morning, 35 year old Honduran Ernesto Perez was driving this Nissan Altima at the corner of Rivero and Fairweather streets when two men drove up - reportedly in an SUV - and one of them started firing - reportedly from a nine millimeter pistol. Perez was hit in the left side of his face and in his back. He lost control and swerved into the drain. A friend who was nearby rushed him to the hospital. This afternoon he received surgery and is presently in the intensive care unit in a critical condition.
According to friends on the scene, he was returning from an errand where he had gone to buy meat at a nearby store. This blood stained grocery bag is proof of that.
And while it may seem to be one more act of wanton street violence, there is a very distinct gang warfare overtone to the shooting because the car belongs to Kraal Road boss, Raymond Killa Gentle.
Police dragged the bullet damaged, blood soaked car out of the drain and impounded it.
