You may recognize the name or the photo of Lionel Baizar. He made the news one month ago when he was accused of car-jacking well known taxi-man, 69 year old Hugh Meighan and biting him in the cheek. Well, Baizar was back in court today on another charge - and this time the 23 year old was again preying on an older person. In March of 2009, 50 year old Elida Fabio told police that Baizar held her and stole her bracelet and earrings.
Fabio testified in court that she was walking on Central American Boulevard going to work when she was approached by Baizar who held her up with what appeared to be a firearm and robbed her of her jewelry. It was later established that the gun was fake.
Fabio said she easily identified Baizar because he had a scar above his eye. Police detained Baizer that same day and found him wearing Fabio's gold bracelet. Baizer denied the charge and said his sister would appear to testify that he was at home when it occurred. She never appeared for that alibi testimony and he was found guilty of robbery.
He was sentenced to 5 years today. He still has charged pending for the Meighan incident in which he is charged with robbery and wounding.
