Thirty five year old escape artist Dennis Quilter, who broke out of prison on April 10th, was recaptured today. Police spotted Quilter in a taxi on Baymen Avenue this morning and apprehended him, then took him into custody.

Quilter who is serving a total of 27 years for several burglary convictions, was brought to the number six Magistrate's court today to be charged with escape from lawful custody.

Quilter was one of 5 prisoners who escaped in April by breaching the security systems at the Belize Central Prison and overpowering the prison officer. The others were all recaptured except for Quilter.

Quilter has escaped on more than one occasion. He escaped from a prison bus in 2007 and got all the way to the United States. He was captured about 2 years later when he was stopped in a vehicle by police and was unable to provide a driver's license. Quilter's arraignment was adjourned until Wednesday, August 25th to give the prosecutor time needed to make a necessary amendment to the court book.
