As we reported at the top of the newscast - Chinese businesses will be closed down tomorrow. It is part protest part mourning after 14 year old Helen Yue was killed last week in an armed robbery.
And while the Chinese community takes a stand, can the very dependent Belize City population even keep standing without the support of those Chinese who cook our food, and provide our goods and groceries.
Monica Bodden hit the streets to break the bad news to late evening shoppers:...
Monica Bodden
"You know that Chinese stores or Chinese businesses won't be opened tomorrow. You know why?"
Consumer
"Yes it's because of the young Chinese girl that got kill last week, I read it in the newspaper."
Monica Bodden
"You will handle - no Chinese business will not be open, you won't be able to buy anything."
Consumer
"I don't really buy so much from stores. My aunt is the one who do the buying. I buy from the restaurants when I get hungry, that will really suck."
Chinese Business Owner
"I will close my store tomorrow."

Monica Bodden
"So you will shut down your store tomorrow?"
Chinese Business Owner
"Yes."
Monica Bodden
"Now, why is that?"
Chinese Business Owner
"I don't know."
Monica Bodden
"Why Chinese businesses will be close tomorrow?"
Consumer

"I don't know, first time I am hearing that."
Monica Bodden
"How will that affect you?"
Consumer
"I will not affect really. I don't really go and buy food stuff, so it will not affect me."
Monica Bodden
"So it will not affect you that you won't be able to buy your fried chicken or to buy at the shop."
Consumer
"Not really."
Consumer

"Normally I come to this store everyday to pick up a little stuff and things but I need to find other means of purchasing tomorrow because its going to affect me very much."
So again, a reminder, if you need anything from your corner store, or a last hit of the msg coated fried chicken, you'd best get it tonight.
